AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit and His power [by attributing the miracles done by Me to Satan] never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin [a sin which is unforgivable in this present age as well as in the age to come]"-- [Matt 12:32; Luke 12:10] |
Bible Question (short): Meaning of Mark 3:29 |
Question (full): What is the meaning of Mark 3:29. It is kind of scary to think that there is an unforgivable sin. I do not believe I have committed this sin for I can still feel the Spirit working in me. However, I fear the possibility of committing it in the future. This verse seems kind of contradictory to other verses to me. For example, Romans 10:13 says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 13:39 says that everyone who believes is set free from every sin. John 3:16 says that whoever believes in Christ has eternal life. In John 5:24, Jesus himself says, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” How can this be? How can Jesus say ALL sins are forgiven for all who believe and then name one sin that will NEVER be forgiven? One thing I've been told a few times is that this sin means unbelief, but I'm not sure I agree with that explanation. Why then does Mark include the verse after saying "He said this because they said he has an impure spirit."? |
