AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 3:29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit and His power [by attributing the miracles done by Me to Satan] never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin [a sin which is unforgivable in this present age as well as in the age to come]"-- [Matt 12:32; Luke 12:10] |
Bible Question:
I am new to this site and I am glad to have found it. My question is concerning one word in Mark 3:29. This word is 'never'. Does this mean that one can never accept the Lord if one blashpemies against the Holy Spirit? Is this person going to hell or does this person still have the possibility of eternal salvation? I don't believe that Matthew 10:33 or II Timothy 2:12 can apply. In Mark 3:29 this verse is applying to the Holy Spirit not Jesus or God. Of course we are talking about two different words as well. One is deny and the other is blasphemes. |
Bible Answer: bartii Hi and welcome to the forum. This subject has been discussed at length before, you may want to do some quick searches in the box to the right to read everything that has been said on the subject. Basically blaspheming the Holy Spirit is rejecting the Holy Spirit, His power, His Ministry. Since the Holy Spirit is what convicts and leads us to Salvation in Christ Jesus, if we rejected the Holy Spirit it would be impossible to be saved, since there would be nothing left to convict and lead us to Christ. Note this isn’t a one time occurrence, but would require a prolonged effort on our part to reject the Holy Spirit. You asked can the person be saved. I think there are those that have reject the ministry of the Holy Spirit but eventually gave in to His call and therefore accepted Jesus and were saved. However I also think there are those that have so hardened their hearts and spirit that the call of the Holy spirit is no longer heard by them. Since Jesus said we can only come to the Father through Him. Then we would have to say since these people reject Jesus by the ministry of the Holy Spirit they are lost forever. EdB |
