Bible Note: Hi, Bowler... The only command in the Law for fasting was on Yom Kippur (Leviticus 23:27). Furthermore, the notion of fasting as a practice that has ceased to be normative for the church, would seem inconsistent with Jesus' directives in Matthew 6:16. I think that this is less about covenant, than it is about the establishment of kingdom of God being now through the church. Just my two widow's mites on the matter. In Him, Doc |
