Bible Question:
What is Jesus saying here when he says that "You are not far from the kingdom of God"? Is he saying that this man is close to understanding about God? Is he saying this man is almost a child of God? Thanks! |
Bible Answer: Yes. Great Question. One of my favorite passages. This passage follows a "Truth Stream" in the bible I refer to as "the law of illumination" The attitude of this man. Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? Se this scribe realized that Jesus was giving good answers, and he was honest enough to concede to those answers as being better than what he had learned. Instead of trying to trip Jesus up or ask Him something to try and accuse Him, this scribe really wanted answers and was willing to listen to them. THis is what made him "Open" to more light. Jesus explained in many ways to his dicsiples how that those that had the right heart would have understanding and those that did rejected knowledge would be hardned. This is really what it boils down to. Let the theologians argue till Jesus comes, those that obey the Lord and keep coming to the light will get more light. Those that refuse to repent and harden their hearts will be driven to darkness. Mark 12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question. Now I do not know if this Scribe got saved or not, I think he did, but the point here is that when a person honestly seeks to know the truth, they will approach the Kingdom of Heaven in proximity if they keep seeking they will find. If any native in the remotest jungle honestly seeks to know God they will be introduced to Jesus. Hallelujah! May God Bless You as you study His Word. |
