AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 10:21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love (high regard, compassion) for him, and He said to him, "You lack one thing: go and sell all your property and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have [abundant] treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me [becoming My disciple, believing and trusting in Me and walking the same path of life that I walk]." |
Bible Question: I believe in God and his heavenly kingdom and I love Jesus his son.I want to be loving and good to all here on earth and I just want to know if it is hurting God if I go tanning in a tanning bed and if I get my nails done etc;According to the Bible we are to give up every thing on earth to bbe with jesus. Is this correct? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Matthew 6:33 comes to mind. It's not so much as having to give up everything, but being willing to give up anything to be with Jesus. Remember, He gave it all - His life - for us. The rich man in Mark 10 wanted to be with Jesus, but he wasn't willing to give up anything. I think the most important thing to remember is that we are only on this earth temporarily, and then it's eternity with the One who loves us (for true believers, anyhow). Your love for your Savior is shown in your devotion to Him and your love for souls (in how many souls you drawing to Christ). You're not hurting God by going to get a tan and your nails done unless you have the wrong motive. Just wanting to be a good representative of God by looking decent and modestly is okay (it takes a lot more than that, but physical appearance does count). If you're doing all of this to catch the eye of men, look better than other women, or draw attention to yourself then your motives are wrong. Please keep this verse in mind: 1 Timothy 2:9-10 - In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. The bottom line is God doesn't call for us to give up anything that doesn't jeopardize our walk with Him. The question is what are we willing to give up to grow in Him? The answer will be different for each of us. I hope this helps. WalkingTalkingBible |
