Bible Question: Where was Jesus between 12yrs-30yrs. |
Bible Answer: Jesus grew up apparently experiencing the same life as most other people in his socioeconomic status. He came from a fairly large family and was a carpenter (Mark 6:3). Anything beyond that, however, is really guesswork --- albeit educated guesswork --- based on what is known about Jewish childhood in general and in that area of the world in particular. You can find it at: http://www.shakinandshinin.org/BibleNotes.html (Look under "Children -- 111") Jesus' early life has been the subject of speculation for many centuries. There are even books dating around the same time as the New Testament that purport to provide detailed accounts of Jesus' childhood. However, in every case these have been proven to be false. We know the most about Jesus through the Gospel accounts (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). Secular historians of the same period also confirm the basic facts of Jesus' mission and message. The authors were most concerned to present an accurate record of Jesus' public ministry, which began at his baptism when he was about 30 years old and ended when he rose from the dead and ascended into heaven about three and a half years later.
