Bible Question:
What does "baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins" mean? How does baptism relate to the forgiveness of sins? How is this related to Christian baptism, if at all? |
Bible Answer: Yes, John's baptism is one of repentance. "Sin", is breaking the spiritual law of God the "Ten commandments." If you look at the Ten Commandments you will soon realize you have broken them, that means you along with every one else born into this world is a sinner. Baptism represents several things. When you repent (ask God to forgive you of your sins)you show your belief by baptism (you are confessing God before men), the water represents the grave, you die to the flesh and are reborn of the Spirit. You must be born again to enter the kingdom of God (read all of JOhn 3). Now you are under the faith of grace and can choose to practice obeying the Ten Commandments. |
