Subject: Filled with the holy spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi, Ray! It was a pure oversight... I am not as good a proof reader as I would like to be... it was only after my reply was posted that I caught the error... the Holy Spirit is God so He is the Giver! As far as the translation... my language skills are limited to English and Spanish (I can derive some understanding from certain root words from the related languages such as Italian, Portuguese, and French and some Latin), so I cannot add much to the translation of Greek... I can relate this argument to Scripture... and state with certainty that both translations would be correct as we know that Jesus told us that He would send the Holy Spirit from the Father (John 15:26), and He also said that He, the Holy Spirit, would be with us and in us (John 14:17)... Peter, in Acts 2:14-18, reminds us that the prophet Joel prophesied that the Holy Spirit would come in the last days (Jesus' incarnation, death, resurrection and ascension)... finally, we know that the Apostles gave the Holy Spirit to the Believers through the imposition of the hands (Acts 8:18)... Since the Holy Spirit is God, He can be both the Gift and the Giver--He is Omnipresent being both able to indwell in the Believers as well as be among the Believers! ...for the purpose of illustration: We find in Acts the description of a direct intercesion by the Holy Spirit as He commands a Believer to seek out a specific uniniciated man... this man who is thirsting for the Truth is brought into the fold and it is the Holy Spirit (the Giver) who Wills this anointment (the gift) of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 8:26-39) Ray, now I need clarification... the Holy Spirit is seen by some as some type of energy or something like it... so when you say, "I simply am suggesting the holy spirit as a gift," are you saying that you believe that the Holy Spirit is restricted to an energy or the embodiment of charismas/dynamics? God Bless! Angel |
