Bible Question:
please translate the meaning of Matthew 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Matt 8:9-10 "For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it." -- Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, "Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel." ... God's day to you, Cynthia Hughes, The centurion was submiting himself to Him, as a god (maybe even the God). It would be improper to impose on someone in authority to change his planned event, even taking the few moments he did may of been an imposition. The centurion had men under him and he had others over him (vs 9). He knew his place and knew that Christ had more authority, than him, maybe even Ceasar. The centurion even knew the Christ had the authority and power to heal from afar. That was his faith that he was commended for (vs 10). S |
