AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 8:4 And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one [about this]; but go, show yourself to the priest [for inspection] and present the offering that Moses commanded, as a testimony (evidence) to them [of your healing]." [Lev 14:2] |
Bible Question: On Matt.8:4...Why does Jesus tell the leper to NOT show others his healing? |
Bible Answer: Hello contented carol, Welcome to the Forum. That's a great question. Though the text doesn't directly say, I think we can be safe to venture that Jesus commanded his silence in order to keep the central focus off the miracle itself. We see similar cases where Jesus ask for silence concerning His ministy: 9:30, 12:16, 16:20. and 17:9. Brought into today's context with the "miracle" shows on TBN and other so-called healing ministries, we see why. The focus really becomes the seeking of the healing itself and of course fame and fortune for the healer. In this regard, I like the question posed by Satan of the Lord in Job 1:9, Then Satan answered the LORD, "Does Job fear God for nothing?" (NASB). Is God alone- or Christ alone- enough for us? I hope this helps, BradK |
