Bible Note: You wrote: 'How stupid of me not to know Job was "Born Again".' You are not stupid; just wrong on this one. Just because Jesus introduced the term in the New Testament does not mean that it was not an Old Testament truth as well. It is obvious that for us to whom the gospel has been revealed in its fulness (i.e. now that Christ has come in the flesh and the atonement has been performed in space and time), that one must trust in Christ alone. However, the gospel existed in the Old Testament as well, albeit not completely fleshed out. We see its earliest historical form in Genesis 3:15. Jesus died for the sins of Old Testament saints like Job just as he died for mine. The gospel has been presented since the fall, and it is trust (faith) in the gospel, no matter how shadowy and prefigured, that has always been the way one is justified. How can we know that Job was "born again" (regenerated)? From this verse: "There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil." --Job 1:1 The fact is that in our own sinful natures it is impossible to submit to God's law or please him in any way (Romans 8:6-8). The fact that Job apparently pleased God a great deal means that God had given him a nature inclined toward doing so; hence, we can say that he was not a "natural man" like the unregenerate among us today (or in his day). --Joe! |
