Bible Question: when God says to u lean on me i bare fruit what does he mean (fruit) |
Bible Answer: smurf-renee: The biblical test of a prophet has always been the conformity of his teaching to the Scriptures: "If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord" (1 Cor. 14:37). See also Deut. 13:1-5 in which Scripture warns against following a false prophet, saying, Thou shalt not hearken unto the voice of that prophet...[but] ye shall walk after the LORD your God and fear him. Jesus in the Matthew 7:15-20 narrative again warns to beware of false prophets whom you will know by their fruits. "Their fruits" refers to their actions and to the doctrines they espouse and proclaim. In this passage Jesus draws a contrast between two kinds of trees and the fruit they produce. "Every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit" -- good produces good and bad produces bad. Thus the normal and consistent production of fruit, whether it is good or bad, in a person's life becomes a clear reflection of whether that person's life is God-centered or world-centered, of whether he is regenerate or unregenerate. Verse 19 of this passage says, Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. The terrible phrase "cast into the fire" is a picture of the eternal punishment of the unregenerate in hell. ...... Galatians 5:16-26 lists the works (fruit?) of the flesh followed by a list of the fruit of the Spirit. Paul notes in vs. 24 that they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts [its passions]. --Hank. |
