Bible Question: A certain well-known TV preacher in his address to a very large congregation related his conversation with God concerning some question that he, the preacher, had. In telling of the experience, the preacher repeatedly sprinkled his narrative with "God said (so and so) and I said (so and so). Then God said (so and so) and I said (so and so)." Thus he continued on and on with his account of his conversation with God. My question is, Is this the way God communicates with man today? Do Hebrews 1:2, 2 Timothy 3:16 and, for that matter, the entire Bible, have any relevancy in our time? Or can we, like the preacher reportedly did, strike up a conversation with God as we would with our next-door neighbor and get from Him personalized and instantaneous answers to our every question without having to bother to search the Scriptures? What does Scriptue say about how God communicates with man and man with God? --Hank |
Bible Answer: You don't think the Bible is for our time? His word changes not, whether it was written six thousand, two thousand years ago or not, it is still the same today, and will be the same a thousand years from now. I can hear the voice of the Word of God talk to me daily. The Word wakes me up talking to me. Not in a audible voice, but yes God talks to me. It has to line up with the Word of God though. If it doesn't then it wasn't God at all. Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:2 He was in the beginning with God. John 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. John 1:4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. John 1:5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Jesus is the Word of God, and He changes not. He sent the Holy Spirit to come to the earth and take his place in talking to the Christians in His behalf. You can read all about that in Acts 2. |
