Bible Question:
I know when you fast you have to pray. It does not matter how long I pray does it? If I fast 8 hours and get just 2 hours of prayer and study time, that really does not matter. I'm a stay at home mom and my daughter is almost 2 and very busy so when I fast or just my regular prayer/study time is during her nap time. When I fast my father knows I have a little one and I believe that if I give him an hour thats better than nothing. I am trying to balance myself with my time doing house work, study time and family time. Another question, Does praying in tongues causes you to hear from God more or just praying in general, be it natural or tongues. I do know that fasting enables you to hear from God clearer. We had service tonight and we're talking about Spiritual Warfare and somethings come only by prayer and fasting. 1 more question, do it matter how long you fast? Thanks |
Bible Answer: Greetings, Fasting is designed to weaken the flesh and to strenghthen the spirit. Jesus views fasting as a voluntary way to attain humility and for reflecting on God's word. God looks at your true motive for fasting. It does not matter that you only spend 2 hours in the word. He would not want you to neglect your daughter or your responsibilities. I might add that we are to "Pray without ceasing" (1Th 5:17) so even if you are not able to have more study / prayer time than you are you are still able to pray. Praying in tongues does not neccessarly cause you to hear more from God but what it does do is have you praying in line with God's word. "Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." (Rom 8:26) The majority of the time our flesh wants to pray what we think is needed but when we pray in the Spirit we pray for that which we do not know about "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. (1Co 14:14). As for how long to fast, fast for however long the Lord lays it on your heart to fast whether it be 2 hours or 20 days. What matters is that you are in obedience to Him. prayon |
