NASB | Matthew 6:16 ¶ "Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 6:16 ¶ "And whenever you are fasting, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they put on a sad and dismal face [like actors, discoloring their faces with ashes or dirt] so that their fasting may be seen by men. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, they [already] have their reward in full. [Is 58:5] |
Bible Question (short): True fasting |
Question (full): Do anyone know about true fasting? I believe that when you fast, you have to set everything a side and focus your all on the Lord. I know that everyone has to work and do other things but if you look at it, you might fast 8-10 hours and you only spend 1-2 hours with the Lord. I have heard of great men of God, when they go one a fast they go off by themselves and set themselves apart from everyone, Tv, phones and everything. I'm saying all of this because I belive in fasting and I have said to myself I will just fast for 3-4 hours and skip a meal and during that time, just fast and pray. God looks on the heart and will honor my prayer more than someone who fast for 10 hours but don't spend anytime with him. Do anyone have any opionions on fasting? Thanks and be blessed |
