Subject: Blessed are the pure in heart |
Bible Note: "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8 (ESV) Matthew 5:28-29 (ESV) But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. [29] If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 1 Cor. 10:13 (ESV) No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Peter 2:11 (ESV) Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Romans 6:11-16, 19 (ESV) So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. [12] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. [13] Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. [14] For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. [15] What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! [16] Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? [19] I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. 1 Cor. 6:13 (ESV) "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food"—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. Psalm 101:2-3 (ESV) I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; [3] I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. Proverbs 6:25-29 (ESV) Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes; [26] for the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life. [27] Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned? [28] Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? [29] So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; none who touches her will go unpunished. Job 31:1-4 (ESV) "I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin? [2] What would be my portion from God above and my heritage from the Almighty on high? [3] Is not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for the workers of iniquity? [4] Does not he see my ways and number all my steps? 1 Cor. 6:9 (ESV) Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 1 Cor. 6:18 (ESV) Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 2 Cor. 10:4-5 (ESV) For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments [5] and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 1 Thes. 4:3-5 (ESV) For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; [4] that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, [5] not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; 1 John 2:15-17 (ESV) Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [16] For all that is in the world— the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. [17] And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. |
