NASB | Matthew 5:32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 5:32 but I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except on grounds of sexual immorality, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who has been divorced commits adultery. [Deut 24:1-4; Luke 16:18] |
Bible Question:
What if he committed adultery, too? This happens in many cases. I would not use the word free (1Co 7:15 - not under bondage (douloo)), but permitted (epitrepo) (Mat 19:8). Steve |
Bible Answer: If both people had committed adultery, then they need to repent and renounce their sin to begin the road towards reconcilation to each other. If one partner is not willing to reconcile, then God will deal with them and the consequences of their actions. I, for one, know full well the consequences of divorce in a family, and it should be avoided at all costs. Nolan |
