AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 5:22 "But I say to you that everyone who continues to be angry with his brother or harbors malice against him shall be guilty before the court; and whoever speaks [contemptuously and insultingly] to his brother, Raca (You empty-headed idiot)!' shall be guilty before the supreme court (Sanhedrin); and whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fiery hell. |
Bible Question: Did Jesus mean this literally? If I call my brother 'a fool' am I guilty enough to go to hell? |
Bible Answer: Nolan ... Be careful not to take any Scripture literally, unless there are words to say otherwise. The word "like" is a possible example. I think Jesus meant what He said literally. He did not say we are going to hell, but are guilty enough to go. Be careful what you say. It is like Jesus said it is better to have a millstone around your neck and go for a swim, than to cause a child to sin (Luke 17:2). Be careful what you do. Searching Scripture Steve |
