Bible Question:
What percentage of the Old Testament is applicable to New Testament Christians? example: Deut. 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: 20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, [and] that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he [is] thy life, Does this text and others like them which are too umerous to mention still apply to believers living in our times, or were they only for Old Testament saints? |
Bible Answer: I wholeheartedly believe that the OT still applies to NT believers. The OT is an account of History that we see patterns of sin and how the Lord cared for the children of Israel. Deut 30:19 is a great example because we see that as the children of Israel had a choice, we also have a choice. We have before us a choice: to follow the Lord, love Him, obey His voice, and cleave unto Him and we shall receive life. I fully believe that we must read the whole Bible to learn the heart of our Lord. One thing I think we do is we read a part of scripture and it is terribly sinful and we think that the Lord condones that behavior because it is in the Bible. I think we are mistaken there because we really should look at the situation and learn from the mistakes and try to apply it to out lives. I could go on forever becasue we are actually studying through the OT right now and I am truely blessed by the amazing truths we can glean from the OT. The Lord bless you, and keep you: The Lord cause His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you and give you peace! |
