Bible Note: Jesus did not CHANGE the laws...he more fully explained them to those who thought that merely keeping the law outwardly was fulfillment of the law. That was the whole point of the Pharisees being condemned by Jesus: not because they followed the law but that they followed it only externally; following the law requires wholeheartedly fulfilling it in thought, word, and deed (Deuteronomy 6:5). Jesus did not call them heathens; he called them whitewashed tombs (clean outside, dead and rotten and decaying inside) and hypocrites. Only Jesus has fulfilled the law of God. --Joe! |
