Bible Question:
Fasting - is it limited to just food and drink or is it also abstaining from something? I'm almost clear as to what the answer is but I've heard people from both sides. Can anyone give me a clearer definition? Thanks! |
Bible Answer: fast (Greek: nesteuo, Strong's# 3522) Definition: to abstain as a religious exercise from FOOD AND DRINK: either entirely, if the fast lasted but a single day, or from customary and choice nourishment, if it continued several days (Thayer and Smith. "Greek Lexicon entry for Nesteuo". "The KJV New Testament Greek Lexicon". Emphasis added.) (www.biblestudytools.net/Lexicons/) - - - - - - - - - - - - - fast 1 : to abstain from FOOD 2 : to eat sparingly or abstain from some FOODS (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary) (Emphasis added.) |
