Bible Question: THIS QUESTION CAME UP IN SUNDAY SCHOOL.WE DIDNT GET AN ANSWER, AND IT HAS BEEN ON MY MIND.WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN AND THE KINGDOM OF GOD? I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Geribid, The phrase "Kingdom of Heaven" is only found in the Gospel of Matthew, where it was used 32 times. Since the Gospel of Matthew was written to Jews (but still has a universal appeal), Matthew was reluctant to use the name of God, since Jews refrain from saying the name of God out of reverence for the 3rd of the Ten Commandments, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." (Exodus 20:7). Therefore, he used "kingdom of heaven" instead, and the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of God are referring to the same thing. Blessings to you, Makarios |
