Bible Question:
where it John came from? what is he preaching about? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Josetu, We know that John was a native of Judah came as the child of promise and was born to when his parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth were old. His parents were of priestly descent. His mother, who was well past child bearing age, was a kinsman of Mary, Jesus' mother. John was a man of the desert and a Nazarite from his birth who lived a life of self-denial. He was plain of speech, familiar with the OT, and made frequent use of its picturesqe language. See Luke 1:5-25; 57-80. (Lockyer's All The Men Of The Bible") He was preaching that the kingdom of Heaven was at hand. Matthew used the prase 'kingdom of heaven" to represent the kingdom of God. John spoke of repentence as a radical turning from sin that inevitably became manifest in the fruit of righteousness. prayon |
