Subject: Whose name is Holy? |
Bible Note: Hi Searcher, Thank you for an excellent answer. The "high and exalted One" is the one God, one Lord, and one Spirit that we should keep in mind for this commission found at the end of Matthew's gospel. Isaiah 6:3, NASB, says, "And one called out to another and said "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory." Verse 8, "Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us/?" So it is the triune God that we go out and serve and in whose name they were told to baptize. Now in passing, can I bring up a capitalization question? The versions that capitalize pronouns, the NASB and NKJ do not agree on the verses here. They agree for the Mighty God of Isaiah 9:6, but do not agree in their interpretation of the child and son for Isaiah 9:6. They do not agree on interpretation of the "High and Exalted" One of Isaiah 57:15. I would like them to get together and agree on these things, and I believe that it could happen. I believe that His name is holy and that He is jealous for His name. Compare and contrast Luke 1:49 and Ezekiel 39:25. Luke 1:49, "For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is (His) name." Ezekiel 39:25, "...and I shall be jealous for (My) holy name." I don't believe that His name is "Holy" nor is it "Jealous", but I should get back with an olde friend for that question. The Holy One is spoken of in Isaiah: Isaiah 37:23, 40:25, and many others Ezekiel 39:7, "And My/ holy name I shall make known in the midst of My people Israel." Contrast or compare John 17:6, "I manifested Thy/ name to the men whom Thou gavest Me out of the world." John 17:3, "And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true (God), and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent." Ezekiel 38:23, "And I shall magnify Myself, and make (Myself) known in the sight of many nations; and they shall know that I am the Lord." John 17:1, "Father, the hour has come, glorify Thy (Son), that the Son may glorify Thee,..." May this Holy One be magnified and glorified. From the heart, Ray |
