Ezekiel ... Why can't you see that all but two of your points have been refuted? The numerics are your entries, the single dashes are Nolan's and mine are the double dashes. I'll have to do this in two parts. 1. Its grammar designates one name (singular) - We all agree on this 2. Its context shows that Jesus described His power and therefore told the disciples to baptize in His name. (vs. 18) - This verse taken in context shows the authority of Jesus and how He delegates this authority to the disciples so that they can baptize in His Name. -- Exousia is the word in the Greek. It is translated authority 65 times in the NAS, authorities 7 times, power 11 times and powers once of the 102 it appears in the NT. It is the noun feminine of exesti (lawful). I think it can be viewed as power or authority. -- They were to baptize in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit … not just His name. 3. Mark's and Luke's descriptions of the same instructions of Christ show that Jesus was the only name mentioned. - Mark's description does not assign any reference to "in the name of Jesus"; it only mentions baptism (Mark 16:15-16). Luke 24:47 simply says "His Name" which could refer to the authority given by the Trinity as a whole, not only Jesus. -- Mark 1:8 says He would baptize with the Holy Ghost. -- Luke 24:47 is about preaching - I do not see baptism 4. The Early Church, including Matthew, carried out Christ's instructions by baptizing in the name of Jesus (Acts 2:38; 8:16; 10:48; 19:5; 22:16; 1 Corinthians 1:13). - True for "The Early Church"; Ezekiel, show us your Scripture reference for "including Matthew". -- Acts 22:16 says to call on His name - either the God of our fathers or the Righteous One. Paul only says no one was baptized in his name (1Co 1:13ff). 5. The Name of the Father is Jesus; the Father is revealed through the name Jesus (John 5:43). - No, this verse does not say that the Name of the Father is "Jesus". The Father is not revealed through the name 'Jesus', and this is a misinterpretation on your part, Ezekiel. John 5:43 states that Christ has come as THE representative of the Father. Therefore, the Father is revealed through Him, not through the name 'Jesus'. This is the beginning of your "Oneness" heresy. -- What does Isa. 9:6 say? Bible Answer: 6. The name of the Son is Jesus (Matthew 1:21). -- Yes, we agree. But, He has other names. 7. The name of the Holy Ghost is Jesus; the Holy Ghost is revealed through the name Jesus (John 14:26). - Wrong again. The Holy Spirit is sent "in Jesus' name". This does NOT mean that the name of the Holy Spirit is Jesus or that the Holy Spirit is revealed through the name of Jesus. This is another gross misinterpretation on your part, Ezekiel. Just as in John 5:43, the Holy Spirit is sent as THE representative of the Father and the Son, Jesus Christ, and He is sent by the authority of the Father and is given authority on earth (see Matt. 28:19). Therefore, all authority comes from the Father and is given to the Son and the Holy Spirit- even while the Son and Holy Spirit share in this authority being in every way fully God themselves. This misinterpretation further leads down your "Oneness" heresy path.. -- I agree with Nolan. They also share many attributes 8. The Bible does not teach the doctrine of the trinity, so there is no theological justifaction for a trine formula. - Yes, the Bible sure does teach the Doctrine of the Trinity! There is theological justification for the Trinity and it is supported through Scripture, even though Scripture does not specifically mention the word "Trinity". There is no theological justification for a "Oneness" formula, which is heresy and contrary to the Bible. -- There is theological justification for the trinity. At the baptism of Christ all Three are present (Mat 3:16-17, Luk 3: 21-22, Mar 1:9-11, Jhn 1: 31-34). -- John 15:26 says "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me." -- 2 Corinthians 13:14 contains a triune blessing "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." 9. God revealed himself in the New Testament by one name. Zecariah14:9 and that name is Jesus Revelation 22:3,4. God revealed Himself in the New Testament through Jesus Christ and through the Holy Spirit! God did not use a 'name' to reveal Himself, He used His only Son! And when His Son was taken up into glory, then He revealed Himself and His Son through the Holy Spirit! You are once again using the 'name' as a formula here, and by doing so you are limiting God! God was and will never be limited by a 'name', no matter what "Oneness" heresy you try to preach, Ezekiel. - Jesus Christ is the Fullness of the Godhead bodily. - "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form," Col. 2:9- the 'fullness of Deity' is NOT saying that the Father is Jesus is the Holy Spirit. This verse is saying that Deity (the divine attributes and nature) dwelt in His earthly body in its fullness, which is a strong statement of the Deity and humanity of Jesus Christ. By saying that 'the Father is Jesus is the Holy Spirit' after reading this verse, you are again grossly misinterpreting this verse to the point of being contrary to Scripture itself. 10. Father in Creation, Son in Redemption, Holy Ghost in Regeneration. -The creation is by the Father (Isa. 64:8; 44:24) Son (Col. 1:15-17) and Holy Spirit (Job 33:4,26:13) were all present in Creation -- Gen 1:1 In the beginning God (Elohim … more than two (El is one, Elah is two)). Let Us (Gen. 1:26) create man in Our own image. - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are present in Redemption (1Pe 1:2). The Father is the source (John 13:3); the Son is the expression of the Father (John 1:1, 18); and the Spirit is the application of the Triune God to man. - and the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all take a part in Regeneration. -- The Father is in us (Eph. 4:6), the Son is in us (2 Cor. 13:5), and the Spirit is in us (Rom. 8:9).
