NASB | Matthew 26:39 ¶ And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 26:39 ¶ And after going a little farther, He fell face down and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible [that is, consistent with Your will], let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." |
Bible Question: How did the author of Matthew know what Jesus said if everyone was asleep when he said it? Who was around to witness it? |
Bible Answer: Jesus took Peter and James and John with Him, but according to the previous verses all the disciples (except Judas, who would show up later) were there with Him. So although the three fell asleep, it is certainly possible that some remained awake and heard His prayers. Isn't this a picture of the church today? Many are indeed "asleep" yet there remain some who are awake and listening to the heart of the Savior! |
