Bible Question:
If God say the sin equals death and here are a few scriptures to back this up: # mans 6:16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. Romans 6:15-17 (in Context) Romans 6 (Whole Chapter) # Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:22-23 (in Context) Romans 6 (Whole Chapter) # Romans 7:5 When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death. Romans 7:4-6 (in Context) Romans 7 (Whole Chapter) # Romans 7:13 But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God’s good commands for its own evil purposes. Romans 7:12-14 (in Context) Romans 7 (Whole Chapter) # Romans 7:24 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Romans 7:23-25 (in Context) Romans 7 (Whole Chapter) # Romans 8:2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-3 God does not say the wages of sin are to have an immortal life and burn in the lake of fire with Satan... it's death! Now when Jesus calls the dead in Christ to rise, is he not calling his people out of their graves? If so this would mean that at this time no one( other than those mentioned in the Bible) are in heaven. Since Judgement day has not come no one can be in heaven nor Hell. How can God send us to heaven or Hell before we have stood before him to be judged? Wouldn't that be like going to court and having the judge sentence you to Jail before he hears your case? And, if the dead in Christ rise when Jesus comes, Who are they if not the ones sleeping in their graves? Are we not misunderstanding what Hell means? Does God not say he will destroy satan and the sinners? Hell would be making them immortal ( that would not be destroying them, they would live forever. What loving God would do that for ever? Would it not be that he is going to burn up the EARTH and satan and his followers? He says he will make us a NEW EARTH. I can see why, if he burns it and all that are left in it. |
Bible Answer: Dear smilesniki, Welcome to the forum! What you are suggesting is a belief known as annihilationism. It has been suggested various times in church history, but is particularly taught nowadays by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Typically they cite various Biblical references to the destruction of the wicked (Philippians 3:19; 1 Thessalonians 5:3; 2 Thessalonians 1:9; 2 Peter 3:7). I don't think that those passages necessarily imply the cessation of existence any more than the passages you have cited do. Instead, I think these are all words that are used to emphasize the harmful and destructive effects of judgment on the wicked (i.e., nonbelievers). The idea of the eternality of the punishment of unbelievers is a difficult one for us to accept. Nevertheless, I think that the Bible teaches that evil remaining unpunished detracts from the glory of God's justice and righteousness (cf Romans 3:25-26; 9:17, 22-24). In the end, the justice and glory of God in this eternal punishment will result in praise to Him (Revelation 19:1-4). In Him, Doc |
