Bible Question:
I'm writing a book and have tried to determine whether or not Elisabeth is Mary's cousin or her aunt. The original greek is "suggenes" meaning of the same kin, akin to, related by blood. Different translations have turned this word in to "relative", "cousin" and "kinswoman". It is crucial to my story that Elisabeth be an Aunt to Mary. My question is this - How upsetting (in everyone's opinion) would this be to the Christian community at large? How important a factor is it in the huge scheme of things? I would greatly appreciate everyone's insight. Thanks. |
Bible Answer: Dear one: At first glance I might be inclined to tell you to write a disclaimer in your novel (for it must be a work of fiction, right?). Without the Truth, you might as well have authored "The DaVinci Code!" But you did ask: "How important a factor is it in the huge scheme of things?" I take this to mean that you want to make God's Word say something that YOU want it to say. IMO, THIS is huge. (I suspect we are all guilty of this at times.) Where God's Word is not clear about a "fact", don't try to make it so. (Rev 22:18) Remember it is HIS story, not yours. Always seek HIS way! Blessings, mommapbs PS: IMO, what is "crucial to your story" is that you run it by THE AUTHOR of us all first! He has called us to be His witnesses, not His editors. Have you sought HIS answer in prayer yet? If not, run it by Him first - remember we are but fallible forumites! |
