AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 23:24 "You [spiritually] blind guides, who strain out a gnat [consuming yourselves with miniscule matters] and swallow a camel [ignoring and violating God's precepts]! [Lev 11:24; 27:30; Mic 6:8] |
Bible Question: please explain matt.23:24 |
Bible Answer: Making large matters out of small issues; failing to see the bigger picture at hand, or as a result from action taken; cause and effect. The gnat is viewed as small issues, straining at gnat; is blowing a small issue way out of proportion, over emphasizing the matter. The camel is created from over emphasizing the gnat (small issues). A person or group of people becoming so preoccupied with gnat issues until they can’t see the biblical metaphor: camel, the bigger picture, which overtakes/consume group or individual. I believe, this is called straining out a gnat but swallowing a camel, in doing so one failed to see or consults God regarding his views about entirety of situation (the bigger picture). For example, God has said let the wheat and tares grow up together, when he returns he will do all the separating. Also, to treat people, as you would like to be treated, and do well to whom intended to hurt or harm you: revenge belongs to God. These are examples of seeing the big picture and not to strain at gnats, but put your faith into Godly action, and how not to swallowing a camel. |
