Bible Question: my question was what's the differance in a person that is chosen and in people that are called. coming from 2 chronicles 7;14 |
Bible Answer: Greetings! In 2 Chron. 7:14, the word usage for "called" suggests identification or belonging. "MY people who are CALLED by MY Name" The Israelites were the CHOSEN nation of people or tribe through whom God would reveal Himself. As they travelled throughout the wilderness and God's power was displayed; the fame and might of the Lord was known throughout the surrounding lands and the rest of the world identified the children of Israel as "God's" people or the people of Yahweh. How wonderful it is that the promise of this verse is extended to us as believers today! I believe that all those who acknowlege Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are "called" (identified as belonging to Him)by His name and "chosen" (a selective action)as well! I bring Matt 22:14 to your attention. In this scripture, the word called indicates action. Many are called - this is an invitation issued by God to all peoples to receive Him as their own. Our response(which God already knows) determines whether we will be called (by His name - CHRISTian)and therefore "chosen" (might we use the word to adopt here?)as well. For as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God. John 1:2 (I don't consider myself qualified to discuss the issue of election or predestination - you can do a "quick search" on this topic for more info.) There is a also a good discussion on this parable in Matthew 22 that can be accessed from the notes on Matthew 22:11. May God bless you through His Word! Mommapbs |
