AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 21:9 The crowds that went ahead of Him, and those that followed Him, were shouting [in praise and adoration], "Hosanna to the Son of David (Messiah); BLESSED [praised, glorified] IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Hosanna in the highest [heaven]!" [Ps 118:26] |
Bible Question: When Messianic prophesies were written as in the middle of a Psalm, did the Jewish people recognize them as such? |
Bible Answer: glory777, This is one passage where they quoted a Psalm (118:26). But, they turned on Him a few days later. So even here, while they recognized the (part of the) Psalm, they wanted something else. In Acts 2:25-28, Peter quoted Psalm 16:8-11, then in verse 35, Psalm 110:1. While some understood, the leaders still did not want to say they recogonized He was the Christ ... and did not wnat the people, too. Steve |
