AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 2:16 ¶ Then Herod, when he realized that he had been tricked by the magi, was extremely angry, and he sent [soldiers] and put to death all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that area who were two years old and under, according to the date which he had learned from the magi. |
Bible Question: What do the terms BC and AD stand for? At a study last night I heard Jesus was born around 5/6 BC -- |
Bible Answer: BC means "Before Christ" (was born) and AD means "In the Year of Our Lord." We ar enow in the year 2004 AD. When the Wisemen from the East journeyed to Bethlehem, they followed a star. Becuase of the time it would take to travel over land, the wisemen may have needed two years to reach Bethelehem. Jesus could have been two years old at the time since Herod had all male children two years and under killed "according to the time which he had determined from the magi" (Matthew 14:16) There may be other reasons for the remaining 3-4 years which I am not sure of. One could be the way years were calculated. We switched to the curent Gregorian 365 day calendar with its 28, 30 and 31 day months some hundreds of years after Jesus was born. |
