NASB | Matthew 2:16 ¶ Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 2:16 ¶ Then Herod, when he realized that he had been tricked by the magi, was extremely angry, and he sent [soldiers] and put to death all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that area who were two years old and under, according to the date which he had learned from the magi. |
Bible Question:
Giam, Why would Herod kill the children in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, if He had moved to Nazareth? Do you think Herod trusted the magi, who caused him to be disturbed (vs 3)? I think he had spies. I do realize that Matthew does not say which town that the magi went to ... but, he implies Bethlehem. We also do not know how long the trip was ... tho I think they got there the same night, since the star went ahead of them (vs 9). The distance from Nazareth to Bethlehem is 70 miles as the crow flies. It would of been more than 24 hours, even on Persian steeds. I'm not sure how to reconcile Luke's account. But, they did have to fulfill prophecy by coming back from Egypt (Hos 11:1). |
Bible Answer: Searcher! That's it! U make all valid points! So that is how god operates: he wrote it in such a way that honest people cd differ in Love, and so only agree on Love! When we think about it, it does not really mater which town they left from, right? smile keep up the good thinking in Love for all other points of view! Then the only thing we are certain of is: Love for each other! write u more later! Love and Respect, giam |
