AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 19:5 and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED INSEPARABLY TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH'? [Gen 1:27; 2:24; Mark 10:7] |
Subject: Men had multiple wives in the old test. |
Bible Note: Good, yea excellent, post, Kalos. Even some acts in Scripture that were in obedience to God's commands are given, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we are commanded to emulate them. Noah built an ark and Moses a tabernacle, but that doesn't mean we should start collecting gopher wood for an ark or acacia wood for a tabernacle any more than that we men should collect as many wives as we possibly can. There is a verse in Paul's second letter to Timothy, well known but apparently poorly understood, which goes like this: "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, ACCURATELY handling the word of truth." (2 Tim. 2:15). In three years on this Forum I have observed that many scriptural passages are called but few are chosen (to be accurately handled). --Hank |
