Bible Question: What did Jesus mean in verse 26 of Matt 15? |
Bible Answer: Hello, The woman was a canaanite. You see in verse 24 Jesus says "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she persisted with her plea by her faith. He answered again and said "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." This response is much harsher than his previous refusal, and a test of her faith. Now Jews often refered to other goups as dogs, and Jesus is saying, as the bread of life, that his gifts are currently for the Jews only, not the rest of the world, that would come later. But she passed the test by accepting that she was a dog and he was the Master, so Jesus heals her daughter according to her faith. I hope in Jesus' name that this is helpful and accurate. |
