Bible Question:
Depending on what translation you use, Jesus either says "I AM" (Derbi, Amplified) or "it is I" (NASB, NIV, RSV) or "I am Jesus" (CEV). Is Jesus saying "I AM" as in "I AM WHO I AM" (Gen 14) which is a clear statement that he is GOD, or is he just letting the disciples know he is near them, to comfort them as they get nervous on the water (ie the good shepherd letting the flock hear his voice.) Which is more accurate? This verse was given to me as an example of Jesus giving a clear statement that he is one with the trinity - ie was God not just a "wise man." I think it is a clear statement from Jesus of his true Godly nature, but I want to confirm it. |
Bible Answer: Word study ... ejgwv eijmi ... The Greek says ejgwv eijmi, which could be translated I am, which is nearly the same as John 6:35, and the other "I am" passages, where it is egwv eijmi. I am not a Greek scholar to give a good answer. I hope this helps, Searcher |
