Bible Question: why did jesus speak in parables |
Bible Answer: Hello LSmith, Jesus spoke in parables because there were some people that He did not want to understand. Mark 4:34 and He did not speak to them without a parable; but He was explaining everything privately to His own disciples. Matt 13:13 "Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. Matt 13:34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable. Matt 13:35 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: "I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS HIDDEN SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD." Things are revealed in the parables that had previously been hidden. Mark 4:10 As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve, began asking Him about the parables. He explained them to His disciples. Mark 4:11 And He was saying to them, "To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but those who are outside get everything in parables, The outsiders got everything in parables. Here is one case where those who He did not want to understand, perceived that He was speaking of them. Matt 21:45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard His parables, they understood that He was speaking about them. Mark 4:13 And He *said to them, "Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables? Mark 4:33 With many such parables He was speaking the word to them, so far as they were able to hear it; He was speaking the Word to them, at that time the Word consisted of what we now know as the Old Testament. Mark 4:9 And He was saying, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear." Jesus had many other things to tell His disciples but they could not bear to hear them yet. John 16:12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. I hope this helps your understanding, wordoer |
