Subject: If the crucifixion occurred on Friday... |
Bible Note: Radioman2 While this subject has been discussed many times I think have to inject here when you state "ALL SORTS OF ELABORATE SCHEMES HAVE BEEN DEVISED TO SUGGEST THAT CHRIST MIGHT HAVE DIED ON A WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY," I agree with what you said that for Jesus to die and be buried on Friday would satisfy the three day and three night requirement. There many others things it would not. Mainly the passover lamb. Jesus was the Passover Lamb and He had to satisfy that requirement. The selection of the Lamb 10th of Nissan and Passover Lamb had to die right before Sundown on the 14th. Jessu fulfilled the selection of the Lamb by riding into Jerusalem on Nissan the 10 th which we call Palm Sunday. I don't think He missed fulfilling the Passover Lamb by dying on Nissan the 15 instead of the 14th. The Passover Lamb had to die before sun down on the 14 day of Nissan. The 14 day was Thursday. At sun down started the 15 day or Feast of Unleaven bread which was a Sabbath. Which in fact is considered by the all Jews as 'THE Sabbath' or the 'Great Sabbath' or 'High Sabbath.' John in his gospel points out in verse 19:31 the importance of this day. Also in verse 42 he calls the day the preparation day and there is only one "Preparation day" in Judaism that being Nissan the 14. Now the day after the 15 would be the weekly Sabbath so the first day Mary and the other ladies could go to the tomb would have been Sunday. I don't hink that is elaborate scheme (as in devised) as much as it is fitting fact with fact. EdB |
