Bible Question: What is the difference in the end of the world and the end of age? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Todenjr, Certain verses, such as Matthew 12:32, Mark 10:30, Luke 18:30, 1 Cor. 10:11, Ephesians 1:21; 2:7, Hebrews 6:5, make it clear that there is a division between "times" into different 'ages' or dispensations, so to speak, in regards to how God deals with his people. However, instead of getting into different "dispensations," I simply believe that 'the present age' as opposed to 'the age to come' take in all of time from the fall of man to the eternal state. The present age is evil (Galatians 1:4), but the coming righteous age will begin with the second advent of Christ and continue forever. Therefore, I believe that time simply could be divided into two 'ages'.. As far as the end of the world, the 'first world,' could be described in Genesis 1:1-7:24 (see also 2 Peter 3:6), when God destroyed the inhabitants of the world and changed the entire earth with the flood. Another 'end' of the world, or this present world, is spoken of in Matthew 24:14, (see also 2 Peter 3:7,10), in which the heavens and the earth will perish this time by fire, again bearing God's wrath and judgment. But we know that a new heaven and a new earth is coming (2 Peter 3:13; Isaiah 65:17; 66:22; Revelation 21) in which righteousness will dwell, reserved for those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
