Bible Question:
Why is it not relevant today? as we know the Holy spirit was not yet sent whilst Jesus was here (St John 14:25,26. St John 16:7-14)And is it not the Holy Spirit that leads us today?(Galatians 5:25) M.Royal |
Bible Answer: Hi again M.Royal. Mat 12:31 "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Mat 12:32 "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. It is relevant today.. You will note that at the end of verse 32 Jesus says, " either in this age or in the age to come." in other words, not only would it not be forgiven then, but not in the future either.. Again in verse 32, this unforgivable sin is described as, "whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit". Now speaking of the Holy Spirit, it is written of Him,, Jhn 16:8 "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:" Now I would say that "speaking against the Holy Spirit" is the same as calling Him a liar. The only way in which a person can be saved, is as a result of accepting the Holy Spirit's conviction that he/she is a sinner, and in desperate need of God's forgiveness,, if the person in question says, "No I am not a sinner", then that is the same as calling the Holy Spirit a liar, and as a result that individual will not be forgiven. |
