Bible Question (short): prophet, Prophet, or One who is more...

Question (full): Luke 2:76 talks about John the baptist thus, "And you, child will be called the prophet of the Most High".

In John 1:21 the baptist denied that he was the Prophet.

My question then is for Matthew 11:9. What did the people expect to see in the wilderness. Who were they looking for?

Were they looking for a prophet or a Prophet? Who was the Expected One? Was indeed this One, "One who is more than a Prophet."

Would anyone like to agree with my interpretation? Matthew 11:9, "But why did you go out? To see a Prophet? Yes, I say to you, and One who is more than a Prophet. This is the One about whom it is written..."
