Bible Question: Why is 'he who is least in the kingdom of heaven greater than John the Baptist'? |
Bible Answer: Ok John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus Christ and the last of the Old Testament prophets, this is essentially putting a dividing line between the old testament and the new testament. Let me explain. When he says born of women he means mortal men of course. Before Jesus there was none greater than the old testament prophets but Jesus is saying that now since men have the knowledge of the glory of God via Jesus Christ while John the Baptist was a great man on earth that someone who merely new that Jesus was the Christ and believed in him and went to Heaven was much greater because he had had the oppurtunity to see the truth of God in Jesus. Its one of those verses that require indepth study of some stuff and might be hard to understand with just simple explanation like that. |
