NASB | Malachi 4:6 "He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Malachi 4:6 "He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers [a reconciliation produced by repentance], so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse [of complete destruction]." [Luke 1:17] |
Bible Question: In Malachi 4:6, who does the "fathers" and who does the "children" refer to? I know the Elijah spoken of there is John the Baptist....but who are the fathers and children? |
Bible Answer: Hello copyrightpolice The familiar rendering of fathers and their literal children makes the most sense. However, I could see how this might be extended to the the relationship between the patriarchs and contemporaries of John. Or possibly the relation between the Jewish authorities and the people. Interesting question. Steve |
