Bible Question:
Good Morning All! I have read this verse before and I did not understand how God, who is love, could hate. Last week, a sister came to me and asked if I had ever read the verse and I told her 'yes'. We looked up this verse in other versions and all used the word 'hate' except the NLT, which uses 'rejected'. We both want to understand how our loving God could hate. Does anyone have any insight into this verse? Thanks in advance to those who may response. Abba Father bless... |
Bible Answer: I agree with what prayon wrote. Yet here is another aspect of the charater of God which we should consider. Deut 12:31 says, "You shall not behave thus toward the LORD your God, for every abominable act which the LORD hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods." I am drawn to the words, "for every abominable act which the LORD hates". I believe this verse indicates that God expresses hatred, just as He expresses anger and jealousy.(Aren't these also emotions that we, in our limited humanity, attach a negative or evil spin to?) God HATES SIN however, God IS love,(1 John 4:8) and Love covers a multitude of sins.(1 Peter 4:8) And, in Christ, God demonstrates His love toward us . . . (Romans 5:8) This reminds me to HATE the SIN and LOVE the SINNER! Hope this encourages you! Blessings, Mommapbs |
