Subject: What are we forsaking? |
Bible Note: I love this verse. It is so rich. To me it seems a very odd statement in this prayer of Jonah's; it seems almost out of context. I looked at several different versions and really had some questions, so I asked our pastor. He is young, but very intelligent, especially in the OT. He said that the word translated faithfulness or loving-kindness is the Hebrew word "hesed". He said it speaks of all the covenant mercies that God granted the children of Israel if they would walk with HIm and obey Him. It is so amazing, and sad, that we give up so very much for some simple temporary pleasures. Regarding, or worshiping the idols we put up in our lives costs us so much and we never really stop and think about it. Then we wonder how the children of Israel could be so blind and disobey God, turn their backs on Him, and miss their Messiah. Are we really any different? I wonder if God will show us the blessings we missed because we put up false idols in our lives? Probably not, there's not supposed to be any tears in Heaven, and I'm sure I would be shedding many over it. To see some of the blessings, see: Deut 4:6-8; 11:8-28 Blessings, Lou |
