AMPLIFIED 2015 | Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the sheepherders of Tekoa, which he saw [in a divine revelation] concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. [Zech 14:5] |
Bible Question: From I Samuel 15:11 and I Samuel 15:35, we learn that God regretted making Saul king. My friend and I were studying this text and were puzzled at this. Specifically, regret is a word used to describe the remorse that results from making a mistake. This runs afoul of our general belief that God is omniscient and does not make mistakes. Could it be that the English translation of the original language doesn't translate well? Or is this just one of those "hard passages" that we will have to inquire about from God face-to-face? Any thoughts? |
Bible Answer: First of all, God who we cannot understand but is revealed 'Himself to us' through His Word, 1Samuel 3:21 has told us in Isaiah 55:8-9 that His thoughts are above ours. He communicates through His Word, with "Word Pictures and Concepts and Types.' We then has a partial understanding of what He is doing, and has done. Why did God reqret allowing Israel to have a KING? Just look at what the Kings did, in 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles! Solomon is why 'he had all the wisdom' and did 1Kings 11:1-4. Those wives turned Israel to Baal Worship and all the Abominations. The bottom line, "Some times we ask God for Something and WE GET IT - BUT: the end of what we get, causes heartache and pain for countless generations, and causes the Name of God to be 2Samuel 12:14. God also said, Psalms 106:15. Now, should Israel have asked for a King? Wasn't God as King, ENOUGH? Jesus will reign as King here soon enough! Amen? Thank you! |
