AMPLIFIED 2015 | Leviticus 16:21 "Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the wickedness of the sons of Israel and all their transgressions in regard to all their sins; and he shall lay them on the head of the goat [the scapegoat, the sin-bearer], and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is prepared [for the task]. |
Bible Question: What was the scapegoat in lev.16:20-22? |
Bible Answer: Hello InGodsWill On the Day of Atonement, two goats were presented as one sin offering (Lev 16:5). One goat was killed because blood was required to atone for sin. The other goat had the sins of Israel confessed on it and was let go in the wilderness as a symbol that the sin had been removed. These are both portrayed beautifully in the Lord Jesus Christ as He offered Himself both as the atoning sacrifice that dies, and as the one who took away the sin. That's a bit more than you may have expected, but it needs to be seen as a whole to get the best understanding. Steve |
