Bible Question:
Hi! I'm a bit puzzled... Leviticus 19:28 says: 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.' My mum has been trying to remind me of this verse with regards to the art ot tattooing. However, I also found that many of us including our church leaders have gone against the law in the other verses. how do i go about this? Leviticus 19:19 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.' Leviticus 19:27 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.' |
Bible Answer: the context of leviticus seems to be about sacrifices and it would seem to be saying in making this process not to mark yourself (tattoo). I don't know of any passage in the bible that does or doesn't support tattoos. You do need to ask why am I getting a tattoo. The answer is often out of rebellion. So one should ask Am I honouring God by doing this? |
