Bible Question:
Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ: A week ago today, my son-in-law Kim was summoned into the presence of the Lord. He leaves behind a grieving family – our daughter Laura (30) and our grandson Garett (3) as well as us all. This was unexpected. He came home from work feeling ill on Friday and developed a fever overnight. Our daughter took him to the hospital Saturday morning and he died less than 24 hours later of sepsis (a massive blood infection that compromised his heart - Kim was 45). The cause is unknown and there remain many unanswered questions. But instead of asking why, we are choosing to focus on Who. I have no idea how anyone can endure a tragedy like this without faith in God; but through this experience I’ve learned that no one can survive apart from the faithfulness of God! God has prepared the way and we are walking in it – not alone, but with Him. Kim came into our lives much like March does, “like a lion.” He was rebellious, fiercely independent, prideful and arrogant at times (so much like each of us!). Yet the previous week, God captured his attention and He drew Him unto Himself. What a comforting blessing this was for our daughter who observed God’s work in Kim’s heart in the days before he died. Our daughter sat by Kim’s side and read from the Psalms. There was a noticeable change in the monitors as she read. After reading the 23rd Psalm, our daughter released her beloved husband and told him that if he saw Jesus, he should go with Him. And Jesus came to that bedside and called Kim to come home. Kim went out just like the month in which he died, “like a lamb” following the Good Shepherd. At the funeral, the Pastor who had married them told us all a wonderful quote by Spurgeon that goes something like this: “God is too loving to be unkind; God is too wise to make a mistake; and if you can’t see what His hand is doing, trust His heart.” We have been doing just that. In fact, we have been compiling a “blessing book.” We have listed all the blessings that God has bestowed upon our family during this time. What a wonderful opportunity we have had to praise and thank God in obedience to His Word; and we have been blessed with such peace in the process! I have learned the truth of God’s promise in Jeremiah 33:3 – to call upon Him and He will answer and tell us great and mighty things which we do not know. God hasn’t told us 'why' He chose to take Kim from us but He has revealed something much better- Himself, and isn’t this just what God is: great and mighty?!!! For my Catholic brothers and sisters, the readings for the Mass of March 13 were very poignant. Our daughter chose to share part of this at Kim's funeral. “You are Mine” I will come to you in silence, I will lift you from all fear. You will hear My voice, I claim you as My choice Be still and know that I am here, Do not be afraid, I am with you. I have called you each by name. Come and follow Me, I will bring you home, I love you and you are Mine. It is my hope that this will encourage you to trust God's love and faithfulness toward you in whatever path He is leading you!
