Subject: does eternal have a beginning? |
Bible Note: Johnny: "He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end." --Ecclesiastes 3:11 Does Adam have the specifics about Heaven? We aren't sure, of course. We do know that Enoch prophesied of eternity and judgment: "It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, 'Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.' --Jude 14,15 I think it is unlikely that Enoch had a grasp of eternity that Adam didn't. We also see a system of sacrifices in place with Cain and Abel, so I would think that lends further evidence that the atonement was clear in the mind of their father. So in Genesis we have knowledge of sin, judgment, and the necessity of atonement. If they had no concept of rewards or punishments in the afterlife, I don't think it would be so important for them to offer sacrifices at all to God. In Ecclesiates we see that eternity is written on the hearts of men. I hold that there is much circumstantial evidence for Adam's remission of sins. One hundred percent sure? Nope, but the facts around him point that way/ |
